The exhibition (was on at the Saatchi Gallery till May 6th 2024) showed Nature, mostly transformed through Industry; a predominant theme in his work. Farming, foresting, quarrying s tone, oil, transportation, silicon, and so on are shown from a great height. They are often difficult to recognise as man’s damage to the landscape. The gigantic aerial photographs of subjects are rich in detail and scale yet open in their meaning. They appear to be almost abstract and force you to get up close to them to spot a machine digger or person for a sense of their immense scale.
Recycling yards, mine tailings, quarries and refineries are all places that are outside of our normal experience and his images are beautiful and epic. The description of the scene actually brings you back to the reality of the impact of mining, over-farming and contaminating on the Earth’s surface.
He uses helicopters, planes and drones, often stitching together many HD images for that high resolution. Inspiring
