This short was produced using my phone for some clips ( I always prefer to take a few seconds of video even if it’s a stationary shot: you can enhance, slow down or crop it when editing later), then add very selective short smooth drone footage.
I used the phone app YouCut pro version to edit the footage.
With the DJI footage you have to save the clips to the phone from the DJI Fly app.
Remember to keep the drone film in a smooth straight line or gentle pan. Edit out those abrupt turns as they make the viewers sea sick! You can cut the jerky bits out and blend the good bits by fading or mixing between them.
My rule is try to keep the clips in the whole video no longer than 3-4 seconds unless something interesting is going on, people lose interest. Short sharp shots can make the viewers want to watch it again too catch what the missed first time too.
Adding music: use the beats, and add/ clip the clips to fit the rhythm ( I’m a lazy at that trick), and use the fade in and out to the sound track. Also you can clip the music to fade out down if there’s something you want heard in the footage like speech or nature sounds. Generally I mute all phone footage so it doesn’t overpower the music, unless it’s vital to the finished piece. So get editing- it’s not as hard as it sounds, and try to keep the finished product less that 90 seconds. Anything longer: people switch off as attention span is short.
